Story
They've been called many things: "The Flying Pear", "The Flying Samurai", "The Doctor's Guitar"... but whatever you call it, the SG-2A has been a hit amongst lovers of offsets ever since it first landed in the mid '60s. While originally introduced to the Japanese market, this guitar's unique tone and contemporary styling quickly made waves amongst the emerging Punk and Surf crowds.
After the success of our Microtonal Flying Banana MT and Microtonal Lizard MT, we had to keep exploring this golden era of quirky, forward-thinking design. While those guitars tapped into the more experimental side of modern psych rock, it was an original SG2A that helped shape many of the tones from King Gizzard’s non-microtonal era, delivering the raw riffs, explosive energy, and off-kilter garage-psych attitude captured in unforgettable live performances like this one.
The Flying Samurai is a tribute to one of the most distinctive shapes ever put into production, preserving the unmistakable aesthetic, character, and tones that made the original so unforgettable, while introducing the modern reliability, playability, and craftsmanship today’s players expect from a true working instrument.
